Purchasing Professionals Forum - India (PPFI), an association of purchase managers from the hospitality industry in the Delhi NCR, has organised their annual get-together, Synergy 2019, in Delhi. The event held in Le Meridien New Delhi was attended by PPFI members, hospitality vendors and other stakeholders of the F&B industry.

As a humanitarian initiative, PPFI has announced the launch of a ‘Sadhbhavana’ fund to support families of professional purchase managers, in case of unfortunate eventualities, especially the loss of life of a working purchase professional. The Forum will extend a INR 1 lakh to families of the purchase professional.

Delivering the keynote at the event, KB Kachru, Chairman Emeritus and Principal Advisor- South Asia, Radisson Hotel Group said that although people in the front of the house gets a lot of importance in the hospitality business because they generate revenue for the hotel, hotel EBITA largely depends on people in the back of the house, especially procurement managers. Hotel procurement is unique in the sense that all the three functions of procurement – demand, supply and consumption – in the hospitality industry happens simultaneously.

Kachru advised the procurement professionals to treat the vendors/suppliers as associates and partners in the business. He said that an eco-system of partnership is always good for the industry. Conventional thinking that vendors are at our mercy need to change, he said. He also urged the purchasing professionals to harness the digital technology to bring transformational changes in the way procurement functions are conducted.

Amarjit Singh Ahuja, Founder & President of PPFI in his address informed that the Forum has been growing in terms of its membership base with more than 80 members joining the Forum in the last one year. He said that the Forum has been able to instil a sense of “sharing” of information and knowledge in the fraternity, which was lacking earlier. He said that PPFI will strive to build “smart purchase professionals” for the hospitality industry.
