From 6 hotel schools and universities last year to 17 foreign hospitality and culinary schools and universities this year, Zista Education's Global Hospitality Education Expo (GHEE), an education fair dedicated for hospitality, culinary and event management in India is gaining momentum slowly but steadily. In terms of cities covered also, the education fair has grown from two cities last year – Mumbai and Delhi – to five cities this year. The new cities GHEE travelled in addition to Mumbai and Delhi, are Bangalore, Jaipur and Kolkata.

The hotel schools participated in the Education Fair included Culinary Arts Academy Switzerland; International Management Institute, Switzerland; Les Roches Global Hospitality Education, Switzerland, Spain & China; Glion Institute of Higher Education, Switzerland and London; University of Derby, UK; Blue Mountains International Hotel Management School, Australia; Michigan State University, USA; The Emirates Academy of Hospitality Management, Dubai; Hotel & Tourism Management Institute, Switzerland, Australia and Singapore; Swiss Hotel Management School, Switzerland; University of Surrey, UK; Le Cordon Bleu, France; New Zealand Management Academies, New Zealand; Ducasse Education, France, Kendall College, USA; William Blue College of Hospitality, Australia,; and University of Delaware USA.

Compared to the first edition last year, Zista also introduced workshops and demonstrations by industry experts this year in all the cities. 'The industry experts were involved this year to provide insights about the industry to career aspirants and was received well by the students," said Mitali Rawool, Assistant Director, Zista Education.

Zista Education is a specialised agency in hospitality education counselling. "GHEE is a platform that we created for students who wanted to pursue a career in the broad hospitality sector which includes hotel management, culinary and event management. The institutions which are participating in the fair are those which command top 10 positions in QS ranking," she said.

As an agency into hospitality education counselling, Zista reaches out to 2,000 students at the higher and senior secondary level for career counselling. An average of 200 students attended the Expo in each city, she said. "The students who come to our Expo have a basic understanding about hospitality education and career opportunities, which is appreciated by the participating hotel schools," Rawool informed. While the demand is more for post-graduate courses, demand for under-graduate programs in foreign universities are also started gaining momentum, she added.

As a shift from the past, she said that Indian students have started looking beyond Swiss schools, of late, to places in Australia, New Zealand and Canada for hospitality education.

Rawool also wanted Indian hotel schools to come forward and participate in the annual Fairs and place their credentials before Indian students. "After a successful expo this year, we will be back with a new set of eclectic speakers and promise to deliver one of the most insightful and interactive hospitality education expo next year," she stated.
