62% increase in demand for destination weddings: WeddingWire India Report

Wedding Planning queries up by 30% in H1 2021 for the Sept-Dec 2021 period vis a vis last year

WeddingWire India, the Indian subsidiary of The Knot Worldwide and a leading online marketplace for couples and wedding professionals, today released insightful statistics on how Indians are planning for weddings in the new normal. As one of the fastest-growing and trusted wedding technology platforms, WeddingWire India saw a 30% jump in queries in H1 2021 for vendor services vis a vis last year. The statistics showcase increased interest in planning and scheduling weddings in the Sept-Dec 2021 period. The demand for destination weddings has gone up by 62% with Jaipur, Jodhpur, and Udaipur being the top 3 choices.

As per the data, venues were the top enquired service at 50% followed by photographers (13%) and Make-Up (9%). As compared to tier 2 cities, major cities and metros reported 79% enquiries with more tech-savvy consumers. While Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, and Bangalore landed in the top 3, the company also saw demand for these services from cities like Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Pune, Udaipur, Jaipur, Chandigarh, Lucknow, Kanpur, Goa, and Kerala.

 

Commenting on the trends, Mr. Ankur Sarawagi, India Country Head - The Knot Worldwide, said, “There is no doubt that the pandemic has been a challenging time for the wedding industry. However, we saw a shift in user behavior, new trends emerged. Couples started looking at intimate weddings and adopting tech innovations to plan their weddings. Hence, as an agile company, we enabled 60,000+ vendors and service providers to adapt. Our expertise in tech and vision to empower couples with access to every wedding service professional at one platform and within the comfort of their homes has enabled us to deliver during these unprecedented times. These numbers solidify our belief that the industry will soon be able to bounce back.”

The data also highlighted that when it comes to wedding planning, the bride inevitably takes lead with ~2X more enquires as compared to the groom. Interestingly, while both Bride and Groom agreed that venue was the most important decision to make, their second choice was make-up and photography, respectively.
