Food & Hospitality Industry all geared for another engaging AAHAR show

Over the last 30 editions, AAHAR, the food and hospitality expo of India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO) has grown from strength to strength amply showcasing the aspirations of the food, food processing, and hospitality industry in India. The 30th edition of the exhibition which is scheduled between March 10 and 14, 2015 at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi is all set for record participation. HOSPITALITY BIZ finds out the mood of the industry….

AAHAR is one of its kind exhibition as it brings together food and hospitality industry under one roof. There is no other B2B exhibition in India which can claim such convergence of industries. When it comes to food, AAHAR represents the full spectrum – processed food, food ingredients and additives, packaging machinery and equipment, technology and engineering equipments, etc. The Hospitality India, which is another strong component, is represented by kitchen equipment manufacturers, distributors, service providers, technology companies, interior designers, wine and beverages, consultants, etc.

Organised by ITPO, AAHAR is supported by government departments, and leading industry associations of both the food and hospitality industry. Ministry of Food Processing Industry (MoFPI) and Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), a nodal body under the Ministry of Commerce support the exposition. Other industry partners from the hospitality and food processing sector who support the annual expo include Hotel & Restaurant Equipment Manufacturers Association of India (HOTREMAI), Association of Resource Companies for Hospitality Industry of India (ARCHII), All India Food Processors Association (AIFPA); Forum of Indian Food Importers (FIFI), etc.

The 29th edition last year was one of the largest in terms of size and participation. The exhibition covered 44,000sqm exhibition area, where 765 companies showcased their products and solutions. There were large international participation as well in the last edition. Companies from 18 overseas destinations took part in the last edition. Around 30,000 business visitors visited AAHAR last year, as per ITPO estimates. The success of AAHAR is that about 90 percent of the exhibitors are repeat exhibitors. ITPO has dedicated 10 halls for the 30th edition.

Earlier it used be just a food show but since 1982, it has grown to a great extent including complete hospitality sector as well. The number of participants has immensely increased over the last few years and the fair now sees participants and visitors from all across the world. This year the fair has booked approximately 22,000 sqmt of exhibition space and the hospitality sector has majorly contributed with around 18,000 sqmt of space,” informs Nirmal Khandelwal, President of HOTREMAI.

rajat_pandhi.jpgARCHII is another major industry partner which has been supporting the annual expo with ever increasing participation from their members. “AAHAR is by far the biggest B2B exhibition for Food & Hospitality Industry. It is spread over 22,000 sq ft in the heart of Delhi. There are over 900 participants from 22 Countries also. No other show comes close to this. It has evolved over 25 years and is a Calender event with most Hotels and Vendors nationally and internationally,” says Rajat Pandhi, President of ARCHII.

amit_lohani.jpgAmit Lohani, Convenor, FIFI also confirms the value and increasing participation of members at the annual fair. “AAHAR is definitely the largest show for the food and hospitality industry in the country not only in its size but also in terms of the visitor profile. It is quite elaborate and extensive as a B2B exhibition. There is no other exhibition in India which covers both equipments and food. FIFI has been witnessing year-on-year growth in participation at AAHAR. We have 1,500 sqm of exhibition space at this edition. Last year it was 1,100 sqm. Almost 52 companies will be part of FIFI expo. This include three international pavilions of Australia, Tunisia, and Afghanistan. The Agriculture Minister of Poland and Ambassador of Poland in India will be visiting the FIFI pavilion on the first day.”

Around 300 chefs from hotels and restaurants across North India will participate in the Culinary Art India 2015 event of Indian Culinary Forum (ICF) organised in partnership with India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO) at the upcoming AAHAR Food & Hospitality Fair between March 10 and 14, 2015. As per the organizers, the five-day event will recognize excellence in the culinary art in India. Renowned Chefs from across India and abroad will participate in the event as honorary Guests and Juries. Chef Oliver Esser Soe Thet, President, Myanmar Chefs Association will be presiding as the Chairperson of the jury in this year’s competitions.

Competitions will be broadly in Display and Live cooking at the Culinary Art India. Individual Artistic display will be held in 3-tier wedding cake, artistic pastry and bakery showpiece, fruit and vegetable carving, butter or margarine sculpture, etc. There will be competitions in cold display like plated appetizers, three-course set dinner menu, desserts, authentic regional Indian cuisine, etc. Besides these display competitions, there will be live cooking competitions in the five-day event.

“The prime objective of Culinary Art India is to establish a professional platform where culinary professionals across India can display their individual and combined skills, creative talent, learn, share experiences, partner and network in a purely businesslike and competitive environment. It will also give youngsters an opportunity to come up with new and innovative ideas,” said Chef Vivek Saggar, Organising Secretary, Culinary Art India, 2015. This platform is to create awareness about the profession of chefs and felicitate the achievers in this profession. Well known chefs from the hospitality fraternity will showcase their flair at the food fiesta and students will brainstorm for their eclectic passion for food along with the competing chefs. The general public will witness the live demonstrations by culinary enthusiasts and the renowned chefs, he informed.
