Coinciding with the Walnut Day Celebrations in the US on May 17, California Walnut Commission in India commissioned a record-breaking Walnut Brownie in Delhi in partnership with International Institute of Culinary Arts (IICA). A 35-ft long Walnut Brownie weighing 211.4 kg was prepared by IICA for California Walnut Commission and displayed it at an event organised to celebrate the Walnut Day at The Oberoi New Delhi. The incredible feat has been recognised by India Book of Records as ‘Largest Walnut Brownie’ ever prepared.
Speaking to Hospitality Biz, Atul Khanna, India Representative for California Walnut Commission said that the objective behind attempting such a record-breaking brownie using Walnuts was to create awareness about the versatility of Californian Walnuts in the preparation of various dishes among the chefs. “Walnut is an important ingredient in salads, bakery products, etc. We want to work closely with the Chefs to help create new recipes using Walnuts,” he said.
“We are happy that California Walnut Commission came to a Culinary Institute and reposed faith in our expertise to make this record-breaking Walnut Brownie. Brownies are prepared in a slow process in a low temperature. Our students and faculty worked for almost 10 hours to prepare the largest brownie,” said Virender S Datta, Chairman, IICA. He said that people believe that Walnuts are only for gifting on festive season, which is not true. He said that Californian Walnuts are white walnuts which are softer compared to Indian black walnuts and therefore preferred in many preparations. |
