At least 9 dead in massive fire at Hotel Arpit Palace in Karol Bagh

The fire broke out on the top floor of Hotel Arpit Palace in central Delhi's Karol Bagh, an area popular with tourists.

At least nine people died after a massive fire broke out at Hotel Arpit Palace in Delhi’s Karol Bagh area early Tuesday morning.  At least 25 fire tenders responded to a call at 4.30 am this morning to conduct rescue operations. 

The victims include one woman and child who tried to escape the fire by jumping out a window. The three-storey hotel, which had 35 rooms, was completely booked by a family which was in Delhi for a function, a source informed.

According to Sandeep Khandelwal, President of Delhi Hotel and Restaurants Owners Association the incident is reported to be due to short circuit and police investigation is on.
