Starscapes, India’s leading astro-tourism company, has partnered with the Uttarakhand Tourism Board (UTTB) and the Tourism & Hospitality Skill Council (THSC) to launch a government-supported skill development initiative aimed at training and certifying 500 local youth as Astro-Tourism Guides across the state within six months.
Under the tripartite agreement, UTTB will act as the sponsoring authority, Starscapes as the training partner, and THSC as the executing partner. The program combines astronomy education with practical skills in hospitality, marketing, and community engagement, promoting sustainable, community-led tourism and dark sky conservation.
Training sessions will be held across multiple destinations including Dehradun, Rishikesh, Almora, Kausani, Munsiyari, Ramnagar, and Chopta. Graduates will receive government-recognized certification, opening avenues in tourism and astro-hospitality.
“This program will empower local youth with employable skills while preserving our night skies,” said Vivek Shandilya, VP, THSC.
Poonam Chand, Additional Director, UTTB, added, “It aligns with our vision of responsible, community-based tourism.”
Ramashish Ray, Founder, Starscapes, emphasized, “True sustainability begins with empowering local communities.”
