In a proactive initiative to evaluate emergency readiness and inter-agency coordination, a large-scale mock drill was held today at Taj Chandigarh, Sector 17. The exercise was led by SP (Operations) Geetanjali Khandelwal and closely supervised by DSP (Operations) Vikas Sheokand.
The drill was prompted by recent security concerns following the terrorist attack on tourists in Pahalgam. Designed to assess Chandigarh’s preparedness for similar scenarios, the simulation involved a mock terrorist incident within the hotel premises.
Commandos from the Operations Cell promptly secured and evacuated the hotel while conducting a collaborative search with house intervention teams, bomb detection units, and dog squads from Chandigarh Police. A dummy explosive device was successfully located in the underground parking area.
The exercise engaged multiple emergency response units, including quick reaction teams, PCR vehicles, ambulances from GMSH-16 and the police hospital (Sector 26), the fire brigade, civil defence, mobile forensics, the crime branch, CID, and the Sector 17 police team.
The dummy bomb was carefully transported in a sandbag-laden vehicle to the Police Lines in Sector 26 for defusing, escorted by PCR vehicles. Officials confirmed that no other suspicious items or individuals were identified during the exhaustive building search.
