A 120-year-old mansion in the city, once a favored spot for film stars in the 1970s and 80s, has been transformed into a heritage hotel. Originally known as the Essenden Bungalow, this historic building was home to Portuguese citizen Eunice Gomez and her husband, T. Shivaramasethu Pillai. In the 1950s, it became Hotel Amritha, a popular gathering place for movie stars when the city was the epicenter of the film industry.
Now rebranded as Amritha Heritage, the building has undergone a tasteful renovation with landscaped gardens that enhance its traditional eave-roofed architecture. Located in Thycaud, the single-story structure beautifully blends Portuguese and Travancore design influences. The revamped hotel will be inaugurated by Union Minister of State for Tourism, Suresh Gopi, in a ceremony at 10:30 a.m. on November 11.
