Varun Hospitality to Transform Vizag’s Iconic The Gateway Hotel into a Cutting-Edge Mixed-Use Development

The Gateway Hotel on Beach Road in Visakhapatnam is set for a transformation as Varun Hospitality announced its plans to redevelop the property into a state-of-the-art mixed-use project. The ambitious ₹500-crore initiative, inspired by Singapore’s iconic Marina Bay Sands, will feature a 5-star deluxe hotel, serviced apartments, luxury retail, and office spaces.

Addressing the media, Varun Group Chairman and Founder V. Prabhu Kishore outlined the vision for the project, which will include sustainable infrastructure, eco-friendly practices, and advanced technologies to minimize its carbon footprint. The redevelopment aims to create a landmark destination for business, leisure, and retail in Vizag.

The new 5-star deluxe hotel will boast 374 sea-facing rooms with private balconies, multiple F&B outlets, a swimming pool, and a rooftop helipad. Complementing this will be fully serviced apartments, 280,000 square feet of Grade A office space, and 30,000 square feet of luxury retail.

“Since 2018, we’ve been planning this redevelopment to make the best use of the space and create a globally recognized project in Visakhapatnam,” said Prabhu Kishore. Starting September 14, The Gateway Hotel will cease bookings as the redevelopment begins.

Sustainable and Energy-Efficient Design

Spread over three acres, the project will incorporate energy-efficient features such as double-glazed glass to reduce heat and UV exposure and extensive greenery to enhance its eco-friendly appeal. Additionally, to minimize disruption during construction, a mini concrete plant will be set up onsite, reducing heavy vehicle movement and carbon emissions.

The construction is expected to begin by September or October 2025 and conclude by the end of 2028. The project will not only add a world-class property to Vizag but also create thousands of jobs during and post-construction.

Boosting Vizag’s Tourism Potential

On the sidelines of the announcement, Prabhu Kishore emphasized Visakhapatnam’s potential as a tourist destination. He highlighted the need for improved air connectivity and infrastructure linking the airport to the city. “Adventure sports and activities near the beach could further enhance Vizag’s appeal, and we hope the government will take proactive steps to promote tourism,” he said.

The transformation of The Gateway Hotel into this innovative mixed-use development is set to redefine hospitality and commercial experiences in Visakhapatnam, further positioning the city as a major hub for tourism and business.
