In a historic move set to transform India’s hospitality industry, Accor, the global hospitality leader, and InterGlobe Enterprises, India’s foremost travel conglomerate, have announced a landmark partnership aimed at creating the country’s fastest-growing hospitality business. With a shared vision of redefining the Indian hospitality landscape, the alliance will target the development of 300 hotels under Accor’s brands by 2030.
A Unified Vision for Hospitality Excellence
This strategic collaboration builds on the long-standing relationship between Accor and InterGlobe. The two companies will merge their existing assets, development, and management businesses in India to form a unified, autonomous platform. Accor will continue to lead operations and brand management while leveraging InterGlobe’s unmatched expertise in travel, aviation, and technology to accelerate growth.
Accor, with 71 operational hotels and 40 more in the pipeline, will deepen its presence across all market segments in India, from economy to luxury. Meanwhile, InterGlobe will bring its entrepreneurial track record and strong foothold in the aviation and hospitality sectors to drive expansion and enhance the guest experience.
Targeting India’s Booming Hospitality Market
With a projected GDP growth of ~7% and a population of 1.4 billion, India is rapidly emerging as one of the world’s largest travel markets. The country’s growing middle class, improved infrastructure, and increased air connectivity have spurred domestic and international tourism. Despite this growth, India’s hotel industry remains highly fragmented, presenting a significant opportunity for organized, branded players like Accor and InterGlobe to establish dominance.
This partnership is poised to capture the growing demand for branded accommodations by focusing on both domestic travelers and outbound Indian tourists heading to the Middle East and Asia-Pacific, where Accor already has a strong presence.
Exclusive Partnership with Treebo
A key component of the alliance is an exclusive partnership with Treebo, India’s leading tech-driven budget hotel platform. Treebo, which manages 800 hotels across 120 cities, will take the lead in developing Accor’s Ibis and Mercurebrands in India under a master license agreement. The partnership will also accelerate the signing of new properties, with ten Mercure hotels already in the pipeline.
Treebo’s advanced technology will enable Accor and InterGlobe to tap into India’s vast unbranded hotel market, creating a combined portfolio that will make them the third-largest hospitality player in India, with over 30,000 rooms.
Leadership Insights
Sébastien Bazin, Chairman & CEO of Accor, emphasized the transformative nature of the partnership, stating, “This landmark alliance combines the best of global hospitality, technology, and entrepreneurship to unlock unprecedented growth in one of the world’s most dynamic travel markets.”
Rahul Bhatia, Group Managing Director of InterGlobe Enterprises, added, “InterGlobe’s deep market insights, combined with Accor’s world-class services, will redefine the hospitality experience in India. Together, we aim to deliver exceptional value to guests and set new benchmarks for the industry.”
A Game-Changer for Indian Hospitality
With a goal of reaching 300 hotels by 2030, this partnership between Accor and InterGlobe is set to revolutionize the hospitality industry in India. By integrating global expertise, local insights, and cutting-edge technology, the alliance promises to create a powerhouse that caters to the evolving needs of Indian and global travelers, setting a new standard for excellence in the sector.
