Bengaluru Hotels to Challenge Swiggy and Zomato with Direct Food Delivery via ONDC

Bengaluru’s food delivery landscape is poised for a shake-up as local hotels begin to trial a new delivery model that could challenge Swiggy and Zomato’s dominance. The Bruhat Bengaluru Hotels Association (BBHA) has partnered with the seller-side platform GrowthFalcons to integrate with the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC). The new system, which is currently being tested by about 10 hotels, could slash delivery commissions and reduce food prices by 10% to 20%.

“We are conducting trial runs to finalize crucial aspects such as the assignment of delivery executives and grievance redressal,” said Arun Adiga, owner of Vidyarthi Bhavan. The new approach, which would rely on delivery partners like Porter and Dunzo, promises lower food prices compared to existing apps.

BBHA President PC Rao confirmed that the service could launch within the next 10 days, with plans to onboard all 3,000 member hotels. However, some customers are cautious about potential issues, such as delayed deliveries and handling grievances. Sushmitha B, a frequent user, expressed concerns about the quality assurance process, stating, “I am not sure how this will work once the hotels are directly on the platform.”

Despite these concerns, the initiative has been largely welcomed, as it could make food delivery more affordable and provide direct contact with local hotels for a better customer experience.
