The issue of employee mental health has taken center stage with every industry, field and in lives of everyone. Even in the world of hospitality, it has made an impact and affected the mental well-being of professionals. It has been learnt that, employee’s facing increased stress from their work, and a few been found it as a cause for major mental health concerns. Keeping in view with Employee’s mental health being, Crowne Plaza, Greater Noida hosted a mental health workshop to mark the World Mental Health Day, today. Team including top management participated in the workshop addressed by Counselling Psychologist Karishma Salwan.

In last few years, we had truly evolved in the space of mental health and well-being. Our organisation IHG has launched a program – I AM HERE (Tribe and Ambassadors) which endeavours at creating a culture of recognising issues and symptoms that can be prevented from advancement. Team members are certified as Tribe and Ambassadors, and it’s much needed in the industry which is truly global and operates 24 by 7. The conversations on the wellbeing arena is still evolving as our people centric hotel industry is stabilizing again and all stakeholders have understood its growing need in rapidly changing world, says Rishabh Tandon, Director HR, Crowne Plaza, Greater Noida and Area Director – Human Resources, IHG.

According to some reports, four in five hospitality workers report experiencing high levels of stress directly related to their jobs, as hospitality work is notoriously difficult, with many staff members working long hours while performing physically challenging tasks. Hotel workers are constantly working against the clock to turn rooms over and remain a step ahead of guest demands.

We at IHG conceptualised the culture of Wellbeing Week in 2021 on quarterly basis, and is continued in the current year. The week engages colleague through interactive sessions/activities on physical, emotional, financial, social and spiritual wellbeing. The week also witnessed spirit of competition where colleagues from different IHG units were competing through e-quizzes on the subject, informs Rishabh.

It is very important and utmost requirement for any organization to implement such policies that support employees and team’s overall health and specially their mental health. The management and other decision makers should involve in making sure to have specially designed tools and practices to protect and uplift colleagues. With such initiatives for their roles will benefit the overall business as well as the staff experience, says Sharad K. Upadhyay, General Manager, Crowne Plaza, Greater Noida.

Talking about the workshop Karishma said, “For long mental health has always been an issue and I’m happy to see that brands are addressing the issue seriously. Once you are open to discuss the small issues and struggles it not just help in addressing mental health issues but also helps to inspire the focus on strong bonding as well as provide belief to employees about the heartfelt care at workplace.

It’s good to see that the brands are initiating awareness campaigns to address the Mental Health issues to their staff and employees. At Crowne Plaza, Greater Noida, the HR leadership has ignited the awareness on mental health across all strata of workforce.
