IHM Ranchi claim consecutive spot in “India Book of Records 2023” on World Tourism Day

IHM Ranchi creates history by making 54 varieties of Madua Cookies in 52 minutes to claim “India Book of Records 2023” on World Tourism Day

Institute of Hotel Management Ranchi, a premier institution under the Department of Tourism, Govt. of Jharkhand and affiliated to the National Council for Hotel Management and Catering Technology (NCHMCT) under the Ministry of Tourism, Govt. of India has made a distinct mark in the culinary history of the state in consecutive years.

In order to mark the celebration of the “International Year of Millet 2023” and World Tourism Day 2023, IHM Ranchi showcased its culinary excellence by preparing more than 54 varieties of Madua cookies in a record time of 52 minutes. In an attempt to bag the prestigious “India Book of Records 2023” in consecutive years, the institute has chosen to highlight the potential usage of the indigenous millet which is popularly known as “Madua” and has immense health benefits by making bakery items such as Ragi Pinwheel, Cranberry Cookies, Ragi Flaxseeds Cookies, Ragi Pistachio Biscuits, and many more.

All the 54 varieties of cookies prepared during the attempt included Madua as the base ingredient in their recipes highlighting its immense health benefits, nutritional value and versatility in the culinary world. The successful execution of such mega events by an academic institution in consecutive years required extensive planning by the culinary R&D team and timely preparation by students under the able guidance of young and enthusiastic teachers of IHM Ranchi.

Present on the occasion were Manoj Kumar, Secretary, Tourism, Govt. of Jharkhand as Chief guest, Rajiv Ranjan, proprietor Hotlips, Ranchi as the guest of honour and Dr. Prakrit Singh, adjudicator, India Book of Records, distinguished guests from media houses, food bloggers and social media influencers.

All the guests present on the occasion witnessed the efforts by the students and appreciated the exemplary achievement of making such record. Manoj Kumar, Secretary, Tourism, Govt. of Jharkhand applauded this extraordinary feat by IHM Ranchi and congratulated all the students, faculty and team members for this achievement. He appreciated the zeal, enthusiasm and energy of the students and faculty members on the occasion of World Tourism Day 2023. He proposed IHM Ranchi to become a center of excellence for the development of the cuisine and culture of Jharkhand.

Dr. Prakrit Singh representative from India Book of Records played the role of adjudicator, while addressing the gathering he shared his wisdom on food crops and the rich cultural and traditional cuisine of Jharkhand. He announced that IHM Ranchi has successfully created a new record by making a total nunber of 54 varieties of Madua-based cookies in only 52 minutes.

On behalf of the institute, Dr. Bhupesh Kumar, Principal, IHM Ranchi received the medal and certificate from the representative of India Book Records. While addressing the gathering he expressed his gratitude towards all the dignitaries for their presence during the event. He congratulated all for World Tourism Day 2023 and team IHM Ranchi for creating a historical record during the consecutive years. Dr. Kumar mentioned that on the occasion of World Tourism Day 2023 IHM Ranchi has truly lived to its theme for the year as “Tourism and green investment” by achieving this extraordinary feat in the International Year of Millet 2023. He reiterated that IHM Ranchi shall continue its endeavor to bring Jharkhandi food at global platform to get its due recognition. He described the nutritional features of Madua in which iron, magnesium and fiber are found in high quantities, which is beneficial for a human diet.
