Proposal to set up a food processing centre in Chandigarh

The Industries Department of Chandigarh has taken up the proposal with the Union Ministry of Food Processing to explore the possibility of setting up a food processing unit in the Union Territory of Chandigarh under a centrally sponsored scheme. The proposal had been mooted by the Regional Centre for Agro Processing Development Society, which sees a vast scope for such units in the Union Territory. Disclosing this, Vandana Disodia, Director, General Manager, District Industries Centre, Chandigarh, says, “The proposal is to set up a food processing and training centre. Besides, the proposal seeks Rs 5 Lakh from the Central Government to strengthen the nodal agency, Rs 5 lakh to meet the staff needs, infrastructure and Rs 9.5 Lakh to set up a food processing and training centre.”
