Swiggy teams up with shikara operators for houseboat deliveries in Srinagar

Swiggy, India’s pioneering on-demand convenience platform, now caters to tourists staying on houseboats on the iconic Dal Lake in Srinagar. This initiative extends Swiggy’s delivery services to cover the picturesque waterways of Srinagar, providing an unmatched dining experience amidst the serene beauty of Dal Lake.

Dal Lake attracts a significant number of tourists each year. With Swiggy’s innovative service, tourists can now relish local cuisine while soaking in the breathtaking views of the lake, enhancing their overall experience of visiting Srinagar.

Swiggy has tied up with Shikara operators who will assist local delivery partners, well-versed in taking a Shikara to crossover to the houseboats. As these deliveries could take longer than on-road delivery, they are aptly compensated for their time. This opens up new opportunities for restaurants to reach customers in unique locations and offer their delicious cuisines directly to their doorstep.

“The Swiggy houseboat delivery is a great example of Swiggy’s mission of offering unparalleled convenience, no matter where the consumer is,” said Sidharth Bhakoo, National Head of Business, Swiggy Food. Our food delivery by Shikhara initiative exemplifies our commitment to meeting the diverse needs of our customers, whether they’re exploring the city streets or relaxing on a houseboat.”

Swiggy, which began operations in Srinagar in 2022, has over 300 restaurants on the platform offering a wide variety of cuisines to locals and tourists alike. Earlier today, Rohit Kapoor – CEO of Swiggy, Food marketplace shared a video of Swiggy’s delivery partner making a houseboat delivery on X.
