Kerala’s 2025–26 liquor policy introduces reforms aimed at boosting tourism and supporting traditional industries. Excise Minister MB Rajesh announced that three-star, four-star, and five-star hotels can now obtain temporary liquor licences for hosting events such as destination weddings and international conferences, even on dry days. This marks a significant shift from the previous policy that enforced a dry day on the first day of every month.
Licences are priced at ₹50,000 per event, with applications required at least seven days in advance. Additionally, the policy allows these hotels to serve toddy, a locally brewed alcoholic beverage, sourced from authorized toddy shops under permits issued by the deputy excise commissioner.
The state also plans to explore toddy’s export potential, showcasing it as a unique offering to boost tourism and promote traditional industries. These changes align with Kerala’s vision of enhancing its hospitality sector while preserving local cultural assets.
