Mahindra Holidays to invest INR 800 crores to build three greenfield resorts in Tamil Nadu

Mahindra Holidays & Resorts India Limited (MHRIL), the leading vacation ownership and leisure hospitality company in India, has formalized a strategic partnership with the Government of Tamil Nadu through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). This collaboration aims to boost tourism and create employment opportunities in the region.

Under the terms of the MOU, MHRIL will make a significant investment of INR 800 crores to establish three greenfield resorts within the next five to six years. Additionally, MHRIL will actively engage with the state government to support and promote the growth of Tamil Nadu’s tourism sector. This partnership not only underscores MHRIL’s dedication to the economic development of Tamil Nadu but also highlights its crucial role in directly generating employment for over 1500 individuals, thereby contributing to the overall state economy.

This investment marks the second-largest commitment by MHRIL, following the INR 1000 crore investment in Uttarakhand last year. It is part of the company’s robust expansion plans, aiming to increase room inventory from 5000 to 10,000 by 2030. With this substantial investment, MHRIL will double its presence in Tamil Nadu, where Club Mahindra already operates resorts in Ooty and Kodaikanal.

Club Mahindra, catering to a member base of 2,90,000 families, offers holidays at over 125 resorts across India and abroad. The company provides 2000+ unique experiences curated to meet the holiday needs of multiple generations within a family. MHRIL has previously established holiday destinations in various locations across India, and this investment aligns with the company’s commitment to expanding its footprint.

In line with MHRIL’s commitment to sustainability and the goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2040, the new resorts in Tamil Nadu will strive to be champions of Net Zero Energy, Water & Waste. This initiative aims to set an example for sustainable tourism in the state, reflecting MHRIL’s dedication to environmental responsibility.
This investment underscores Tamil Nadu’s status as a cradle of one of humanity’s living classical civilizations, offering a diverse array of tourist attractions, including ancient temples, scenic beaches, majestic hill stations, and wildlife sanctuaries. These locations showcase the rich cultural, architectural, and natural beauty of the state, further enhancing its appeal as a tourism destination.
