Marriott to expand India portfolio to 250 hotels by 2025

Marriott International is reportedly planning to increase its portfolio in India to 250 hotels by 2025.

The company is looking to open more than 100 properties across at least ten new cities in the country, CNBC-TV18 reported. It currently has 140 operational hotels in the country.

In an interview with CNBC-TV18, Marriott International president and CEO Anthony Capuano said: “We are in 40 cities today, that should be 50 cities or more by 2025 and maybe what is exciting to me is that results in us creating 10,000 new jobs across India.”

“I had the good fortune to spend a bit of time with India’s tourism minister and one of the things we talked about is the importance, as an industry and certainly from Marriott’s perspective, to continue to tell the story globally of what a rich and diverse set of experiences the country offers.”

Marriott will focus on continued strong growth this year.

Speaking at the Hoteliers’ Conclave 2022, held in New Delhi in September last year, Marriott International South Asia area vice-president Ranju Alex said the company would have 200 properties in India by 2025, with a focus on tapping the growth in tier II and tier III cities.

During that time, Marriott International also revealed plans to open 14 new luxury properties in the Asia Pacific region by the end of this year.

The company has 30 brands and over 8,000 properties across 139 countries. Its luxury hotel portfolio includes brands such as W Hotel, The Ritz-Carlton, The Luxury Collection, St. Regis, JW Marriott, Bulgari and Edition.
