On Monday, September 2, the Women’s Safety Wing of the Telangana police held a meeting with hotel aggregators, urging them to ensure the safety of all guests, particularly women and children.
The meeting, led by Director General Shikha Goel, reviewed current safety protocols in hotels and called for enhancements to better protect guests. Discussions focused on strengthening ID verification processes, extending the duration of CCTV footage storage, and ensuring emergency police contact information is prominently available in hotel rooms, reception areas, and common spaces.
Goel highlighted that hotels have agreed to enforce strict ID verification for all guests, requiring original ID cards at check-in. A standardized entry register format will be implemented across all franchise properties. She also suggested extending CCTV footage storage from 30-60 days to a minimum of 90 days, with regular audits to ensure all cameras are functioning properly.
Additionally, Goel instructed hotel management to display emergency contact numbers, like Dial 100, prominently in all rooms and reception areas. The Women’s Safety Wing will provide stickers and posters detailing safety measures to support this effort.
Emphasizing the importance of guest safety, especially for women, Goel called for regular staff training and a background verification process for all hotel employees. She also stressed the need for immediate police reporting of any illegal activities or suspicious behavior observed in hotels.
To further enhance safety, emergency contact details will be included in booking confirmation emails and SMS notifications, reminding guests to remain vigilant and know how to seek help in an emergency.
Goel assured the hotel aggregators of continued collaboration from the Women’s Safety Wing, with ongoing monitoring of these protocols and cooperation with local police officers to maintain a safe environment for all citizens of Telangana.
