Uttar Pradesh’s first State Institute of Hotel Management (SIHM) in Gorakhpur is set to be ready within four months. The institute, a flagship initiative of the Department of Tourism, aims to address the rising demand for skilled professionals in the state’s growing tourism and hospitality sector.
Located opposite the GIDA office, the INR43.38-crore project is over 85% complete and scheduled for completion by September. The first phase includes administrative offices, classrooms, a common hall, training kitchens, underground parking, and safety systems spread across two blocks. Construction began on September 26, 2023, with over INR35 crore already spent.
Deputy Director of Tourism, Ravindra Kumar Mishra, confirmed that efforts are on track for a September finish. The institute will offer diploma and degree programs in hotel and tourism management aligned with global standards starting in the next academic session. This initiative is expected to provide local youth with employment-oriented education, boosting career opportunities as Gorakhpur’s tourism industry flourishes.
The project’s second phase, focused on building hostels for boys and girls, is estimated at INR46.81 crore, with the e-tendering process currently underway. SIHM is poised to become a key hub for hospitality education in Uttar Pradesh.
