According to a report by The Hindu, nearly three years after the initial announcement, Bangalore Airport Hotel Limited (BAHL), a subsidiary of Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL), has commenced the process of selecting contractors for the construction of a 775-room hotel at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA).
The invitation for expressions of interest, issued on Tuesday, seeks experienced and reputed contractors and developers for the civil and structural works of the proposed 775-keys combo hotel, which will feature both Vivanta and Ginger brands.
Additionally, BAHL has recently issued a Request For Proposal for excavation work for the same project, indicating progress towards the hotel’s realization.
In June 2021, the Indian Hotels Company (IHCL), owner and operator of the Taj Group of hotels, entered into an agreement with Bengaluru Airport City Limited (BACL) to establish the 775-room hotel. Comprising a 450-room Vivanta and a 325-room Ginger hotel, the proposed establishment will be strategically located near the forthcoming concert arena within the airport premises.
IHCL has emphasized that the Vivanta and Ginger hotels will boast extensive banqueting facilities to cater to the growing demand for Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE). The anticipated opening of the hotel is slated for 2025.
Currently, IHCL operates Taj Bangalore, featuring 370 rooms and located just 250 meters from Terminal-1 of KIA. With the addition of the proposed 775-room hotel, the combined inventory on the airport premises is projected to reach 1,145 rooms.
