In its statement, OYO revealed that it will add over 150 hotels in Ayodhya, 100 in Varanasi, and 50 each in Prayagraj, Haridwar, and Puri. Additional properties will be introduced in other spiritual destinations, including Mathura, Vrindavan, Amritsar, Ujjain, Ajmer, Nasik, and Tirupati.
Ayodhya, which has emerged as a prominent spiritual tourism hub, led the charts as the most-searched religious destination for New Year holidays, with searches on the OYO app witnessing a 39% year-on-year growth. The surge in demand for accommodations follows the inauguration of the Ram Temple last year, which has significantly boosted the city’s spiritual tourism appeal.
“Our focus is on launching strategically located hotels in key religious centres to cater to the increasing demand for quality accommodations among pilgrims and visitors,” said Varun Jain, OYO India’s Chief Operating Officer. “We are also keeping a close eye on evolving trends in religious tourism, such as seasonal travel patterns, visitor preferences, and the rising popularity of lesser-known pilgrimage destinations.”
Religious tourism in India is projected to generate $59 billion in revenue by 2028, creating approximately 140 million temporary and permanent jobs by 2030.
