The award was presented on 19th May 2023 in Montego Bay, Jamaica, at the closing ceremony of Preferred Hotels & Resorts’ 2023 Global Conference. The prestigious honour bestowed on the timeless hotel, epitomizes its quality experience within the brand’s global portfolio while inspiring the global travel community to pursue #ThePreferredLife.
Marking the 55th year of Preferred, the conference themed Heart of Hospitality, chose to convey the collective passion for service shared by all attendees and the 2023 awards reflected their long held commitment to championing independent hotels. Preferred Hotels & Resorts CEO Lindsey Ueberroth, helped by President Michelle Woodley and other senior executives, announced winners at the ceremony. Attended by over 200 hospitality industry leaders, including guest conference speakers Shelia Johnson, CEO of Salamander Hotels & Resorts, and Jordin Greene from Signature Travel Network, along with independent luxury hoteliers from around the world, the white event was elegantly spruced up with nice touches to present an evening of erudition. The Awards of Excellence 2023 categories spanned New Hotel of the Year, I Prefer Hotel of the Year, Hotelier of the Year, and the Shiji ReviewPro Award for Online Reputation Management.

To qualify for nominations of these awards, hotels were required to rank among the top in their region as part of the Preferred Hotels & Resorts Integrated Quality Assurance program – which included a professional on-site inspection and real-time guest feedback
from the world’s top consumer review sites – and actively demonstrate strong engagement in their partnership with the brand. From the pool of qualified hotels, the brand’s team of regional leaders drew a shortlist across categories with the awards committee, chaired by the Ueberroth Family, selecting the winners.
