The Bihar state cabinet approved a tourism department proposal on Tuesday to construct three five-star hotels in Patna, aiming to enhance the state’s appeal as a tourist destination. The new hotels will be developed at the current sites of Hotel Patliputra Ashok, Sultan Palace, and the Bankipore bus stand under a public-private partnership (PPP) model.
S. Siddharth, Additional Chief Secretary of the Cabinet Secretariat Department, noted that the plan to build these hotels was initially conceived in 2019. “We have now decided to move forward with these projects, combining both hospitality and retail sectors on these campuses. Investors will oversee the construction under the PPP model,” he stated.
The Sultan Palace will be preserved and converted into a heritage hotel, while the existing structures at Hotel Patliputra Ashok and the Bankipore bus stand will be demolished to make way for new, international-standard five-star hotels. Alternatively, the remaining land may be used to develop four-star hotels, though this is not a requirement.
The new hotels will feature substantial capacities. The Hotel Patliputra Ashok site will offer at least 100 rooms, while the Sultan Palace and Bankipore bus stand locations will accommodate a minimum of 150 rooms each.
The cabinet also confirmed the detailed project report, terms of the concession agreement, and bid management for these projects. The land for these developments was approved for transfer on a 45-year lease in 2019.
Additionally, the cabinet sanctioned the transfer of 0.4546 acres of land at Purandarpur and Aryabhatta Gyan University campus in Mithapur to the Urban Development and Housing Department for constructing a ramp for a metro rail station.
