Boon, an IoT water-tech startup, donated 300 Premium Glass Water Bottles to the Gurugram Police on June 5, 2023, at the Udyog Vihar Police Station in Gurugram, Haryana, on World Environment Day. The event, centered around providing plastic-free hydration solutions to police personnel, was graced by the renowned Assistant Commissioner of Police, Sh Manoj Kumar.
According to UNEP, 1 million plastic bottles are purchased every minute. These single-use plastic water bottles need to be transported over long distances, emitting greenhouse gases, and posing a serious threat to our fragile ecosystem. Moreover, most plastic bottles are made of polyethylene terephthalate (PET). Research shows phthalates in bottles can disintegrate into microplastics (small pieces of plastic debris less than five millimeters in size) and seep into your water, especially when exposed to high temperatures or stored for an extended period.
Through the NetZero Water Initiative, Boon aims not only to reduce carbon footprint but also to provide healthy and sustainable microplastic-free alternatives. Several corporate giants such as Google, PepsiCo, and McKinsey, as well as hospitality chains such as Taj, Oberoi, and & Beyond, are already onboard with Boon’s NetZero Water initiative.
Celebrated worldwide on June 5, World Environment Day encourages awareness and action for the protection of the environment, specifically in combating plastic usage and waste. Boon’s donation of the glass bottles as part of the campaign will focus on access to clean water, combating plastic pollution and water contamination, reducing dependence on single-use plastic bottles, and promoting reusable and refillable options.
Dr. Vibha Tripathi, Founder & MD of Boon, shared her views on the occasion, stating, ‘Here at Boon, we strive to raise awareness about water pollution, conservation, and sustainable water management practices. Our latest campaign with the Gurugram Police is yet another step towards demonstrating a collective effort to address environmental challenges and ensure a healthier and more sustainable environment.’
She added, ‘We believe that hydration is extremely crucial for maintaining focus, energy levels, and overall physical and mental performance, especially during duty hours for our police force. The donation of the purification system and glass bottles is an instrumental step.’
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Sh Manoj Kumar, also expressed his gratitude, saying, ‘We wholeheartedly thank Boon for this campaign that helps our police force establish itself as a leader in environmental stewardship within the region. We believe that the initiative on World Environment Day will have a positive impact on the police force. It promises to promote health, foster environmental awareness, and contribute to the overall development of a more environmentally conscious society, making Gurugram safer and more sustainable at the same time.’
