On the second day of the Global Investors Summit 2025, Union Minister for Domestic Tourism and Culture, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, lauded Madhya Pradesh as a rising star in the hospitality and tourism industry. Highlighting the state’s natural and cultural wealth, supported by government incentives, he declared it a prime destination for investments in travel and tourism infrastructure.
During his address at the tourism-focused session held at Bhopal’s IGRMS, Shekhawat shared his deep connection with the hospitality sector. Reflecting on his hypothetical career outside politics, he stated, “Had I not been in politics, I would have opened a hotel in Madhya Pradesh. This state has everything a hospitality entrepreneur dreams of—a perfect blend of nature, culture, and supportive policies.”
The minister shared promising statistics, revealing that India earned ₹1,300 crores from inbound tourism and ₹250 crores from domestic travelers in 2024. With upcoming events like the Mahakumbh Mela, he projected a significant boost in tourism revenue for 2025, further cementing the hospitality industry’s growth trajectory.
“Madhya Pradesh, as the heart of India, offers an unparalleled experience to tourists,” Shekhawat said. “From mountains and forests to historical monuments, cultural sites, and adventure-filled water bodies, the state satisfies every expectation of a traveler. The recent infrastructural developments are making it even more accessible and attractive to tourists.”
The minister praised the Madhya Pradesh government for its progressive policies and incentives designed to attract investment in the hospitality sector. He predicted that the state would become a leader in hospitality and tourism investments across India.
Echoing his own aspirations for the industry, Shekhawat quipped, “If I weren’t in politics, I would have definitely opened a hotel here again.”
The state’s rich biodiversity, adventure tourism opportunities, and cultural heritage, combined with an investor-friendly environment, make it a magnet for entrepreneurs in the hospitality sector. Shekhawat emphasized that Madhya Pradesh is poised to be the top destination for travel and tourism investments in the coming years.
As the Global Investors Summit 2025 progresses, the focus on Madhya Pradesh as a hospitality hub highlights the state’s potential to drive sustainable tourism while contributing significantly to India’s economy. With government backing and natural allure, the state is set to become a cornerstone of India’s hospitality industry.
