The Ascott Limited places sustainability at the forefront of its Festive Season

This year, The Ascott Limited (Ascott) welcomed the Festive Season with joyful celebration; inviting in-house guests and local children who sang Festive Carols while indulging in hearty Christmas bites to revel in the Sustainable Christmas Tree lighting at two of its properties – Somerset Greenways Chennai and Citadines OMR Chennai.

Sustainable Christmas Trees are a vital alternative to the traditional Yule trees typically used in celebration. They contribute to a larger amount of reduction in carbon footprint and enable the recycling process eco-friendly – thus helping in celebrating a green Christmas.

Somerset Greenways Chennai team artistically assembled the tree pieces using remnant drain cells to produce the 8.4 feet tall tree, located at the property premises for the guests to enjoy the aesthetic view. Speaking on this initiative, Syed Mansur Ahmad, General Manager of Somerset Greenways Chennai said ‘Sustainability is a daily conscious choice, and we endeavor to implement it within our regular activities in or outside the property in an eco-friendly yet creative manner. This year, our Sustainable Tree has enabled reducing 100 kg of carbon footprint emission – as typically produced by a traditional tree – taking thereby a significant step to live in harmony with nature.”

Citadines OMR Chennai team has used recycled materials like PVC pipes that were once heat & water conductors and repurposed them as the tree trunk and branches. Prashant Rajkumar, Operation Manager at Citadines OMR Chennai said “This Christmas marks our 6th year of crafting our own sustainable Christmas Tree at Citadines Chennai by upcycling damaged materials. Sustainability, being at the core of our value-system, paves the way for us to make a collective effort to strengthen operational waste-management. By reusing the décor every year, we are able to create unique experiences for our guests and include them in our environmental journey.”

As a trusted accommodation provider with a global outreach, Ascott is committed to extending the culture of care and hospitality to the people and environments through its business and across its supply chain, with the Ascott CARES program.
