Jain (Deemed-to-be University) celebrated the World Tourism Day 2025 at the, JGI Knowledge Campus, Jayanagar, Bengaluru between the 8th and 11th of October 2025.
The event was organized by School of Commerce, Jain(Deemed-to-be University) under the leadership Dr. Dinesh Nilkant, Pro Vice Chancellor, Jain (Deemed-to-be University)and Dr. M. Neelima Chaudhary, Deputy Director (In-charge), School of Commerce, Jain (Deemed-to-be-University).
The event was Coordinated by Dr S Rajalakshmi, Assistant Professor, Faculty of Management, School of Commerce, Jain(Deemed-to-be University). A team of faculties Dr Shobha K B and Dr Rachana Saxena, along with students of Bachelor of Management Studies- Tourism and Hospitality Management (BMS-THM) specialization played an important role in the conduct of the event.
Every year World Tourism Day is celebrated on the 27th of September, by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) on a different theme. The global theme announced by UNWTO for the year 2025 is ‘Tourism and Sustainable Transformation’.
This year the World Tourism Day celebrations at Jain (Deemed-to-be University) was conducted aligning with the theme ‘Tourism and Sustainable Transformation’. It was celebrated as a four-day event. The celebration aimed to spread awareness about the powerful role of tourism in fostering sustainable development.
The first day of the event was on the 8th of October 2025, Wednesday. It began with an inaugural ceremony where the poster for World Tourism Day was revealed. Following that, there was an Oratorical Contest in English on the topic “Can Tourism Be a potential driver of sustainable transformation?”
The second and third day, that is on the 9th of October 2025(Thursday) and the 10th of October 2025 (Friday) a series of exciting competitions and activities were conducted to engage students creatively and intellectually. There was a Tourism Quiz that tested knowledge about world destinations and global tourism trends, a Poster Making Competition on the theme, ‘Tourism and Sustainable Transformation’ and a Cooking without Fire activity. The competitions and activities saw an enthusiastic participation from over 45 students from various programmes. The students showcased exceptional creativity and talent in all the events.
The final and the fourth day of event had a sapling plantation drive and a prize distribution ceremony. Eminent guests from the academia as well as the industry were invited for the event on the final day. Dr. Sumit Kumar Singh from Garden City University, Bengaluru, Mr. Deepak Nataraj, the HoD of Koshys Institute of Hotel Management, Bengaluru and Mr. Ranajit Behera, Assistant General Manager-Services from Bengaluru International Airport Limited were the guests of the event.
The guest speakers addressed the students about the importance of sustainable travel and preserving Indian culture through promotion of Indian tourism products. They also explained about the importance of responsible tourism and the role of tourism professionals in fostering sustainable tourism. Their speech enlightened the students with thoughtful insights.
Following the speech, the winners of the competition were honoured by the chief guests with certificates and prizes for their outstanding performances in the quiz, poster, and oratorical contest. A series of cultural events showcasing the talents of our students were conducted on that day.
The students had a very enriching experience and gained practical as well as theoretical knowledge on Sustainable tourism. The celebration reinforced the values of community engagement, sustainability and social responsibility among the students.
