The International Institute of Hotel Management (IIHM), Bangalore celebrated World Youth Day 2026 with a series of interactive activities aimed at fostering creativity, communication, critical thinking and industry readiness among hospitality students.
Held under the theme ‘Skill Thrill Gen Z’, the programme encouraged students to apply hospitality and leadership skills through activities such as Scratch Up Pitch, where participants presented business ideas in two minutes, and Culinary in Modern Interpretation, which explored contemporary culinary concepts. Students also showcased their digital storytelling abilities through short-form video content and participated in a high-energy Dessert Island Debate, testing teamwork, persuasion and decision-making skills.
The event also highlighted the role of industry engagement in hospitality education through IIHM’s association with Skal International Bangalore and Young Skal.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Suborno Bose, Chairman, IIHM, said that the hospitality industry increasingly requires professionals who combine technical knowledge with creativity, adaptability, empathy and communication skills. He noted that World Youth Day provides an opportunity to recognise the potential of young talent while encouraging them to emerge as responsible industry leaders.
Sanchari Chowdhury, Director, IIHM Bangalore and Head-South Operations, IIHM, said the initiative reflected Gen Z’s preference for experiential and collaborative learning. She added that industry platforms such as Young Skal help students gain exposure to the broader hospitality and tourism ecosystem and build valuable professional networks.
Sustainability formed a key part of the celebrations, with students participating in poster-making competitions and creating video content highlighting sustainable practices adopted across food production, rooms division and food and beverage training areas. Discussions also focused on themes such as decent work, quality education, meaningful participation and the future of hospitality careers.
The programme concluded with sessions encouraging students to examine their role in shaping a more sustainable, inclusive and innovative hospitality industry, reinforcing IIHM’s focus on industry-aligned, future-ready education.
