Fairfield by Marriott Kolkata has announced the appointment of Somrup Chanda as its General Manager, effective 9 January 2026.
Somrup brings over two decades of diverse hospitality experience, having worked with leading hotel brands across India and the Middle East. His expertise spans hotel operations, revenue management, marketing, guest experience, and pre-opening leadership.
He began his career with Hyatt in Food & Beverage and progressed through marquee brands including Grand Hyatt, Park Hyatt, and Hyatt Regency, before transitioning to Marriott International. At Marriott, Somrup played a key role in launching India’s first Sheraton Grand and later contributed significantly to the pre-opening and rebranding of Indore Marriott Hotel, introducing multiple award-winning concepts.
His career also includes senior leadership roles with Accor in Kolkata and IHG in Abu Dhabi, before returning to India. Most recently, in 2023, Somrup served as Director of Operations at Bangalore Marriott Hotel Whitefield, where he successfully stabilised operations, enhanced guest satisfaction, drove revenue growth, and strengthened the hotel’s position as Karnataka’s largest single-branded property.
Outside of work, Somrup is an avid traveller, food enthusiast, and pet lover. He will be joined in Kolkata by his wife Debanjali, daughter Saanvi, and their pet Augus.
