Valentine Day sales on food tech and delivery platforms came close to new years with companies recording highest ever orders. Cakes, chocolates and roses saw the biggest spike in sales, while several Indians also preferred dining out to celebrate the day of love.
“Valentine’s Day was a hit. We’ll end up hitting our highest ever orders in a day. NYE 2023 is (the) highest till now,” said Albinder Dhindsa, CEO , Zomato-owned Blinkit, adding that as of 6:30pm on February 14, the platform clocked its highest ever orders per minute (OPM).
For Blinkit, 32 percent of all orders going out on the V-Day were gift orders. For context, Blinkit delivered about 6.2 lakh orders each day on the average in the October-December quarter, as per the company’s filings.
Even Swiggy had a similar outcome. “This Valentine’s Day, Swiggy Instamart is set to break its own records, anticipating the highest single-day sales ever, surpassing even the peak observed on new year’s eve,” a company spokesperson said.
