Bintan Island is witnessing rising interest from Indian travellers as shifting consumer preferences toward experience-driven international holidays boost demand for accessible leisure destinations across Southeast Asia.
The Indonesian island destination, located a short ferry ride from Singapore, is increasingly attracting Indian tourists seeking convenient, short-haul overseas vacations that combine relaxation, wellness, nature and adventure within a single itinerary.
Industry stakeholders attribute the growth to factors including seamless connectivity through Singapore, growing demand for beach and wellness tourism, increasing interest in family-oriented travel experiences, and a preference for destinations offering diverse recreational options without extensive travel time.
From a tourism infrastructure perspective, Bintan’s integrated resort ecosystem positions it as a competitive destination in the regional travel market. The island offers a mix of luxury resorts, wellness retreats, championship golf courses, water sports facilities and nature-based attractions, supported by established hospitality infrastructure and transport connectivity.
The destination is also gaining traction among the Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) segment, with resorts and event venues increasingly catering to corporate retreats, incentive groups and business events from India.
Abdul Wahab said India remains a strategic source market for the destination, noting that modern travellers are prioritising destinations that combine leisure, recreation and meaningful experiences.
To strengthen its presence in India, Bintan Resorts is expanding engagement through travel trade partnerships, MICE collaborations, consumer marketing initiatives and digital outreach programmes aimed at increasing destination awareness.
The growing interest in Bintan reflects a broader trend in outbound tourism, where Indian travellers are increasingly choosing destinations that offer strong tourism infrastructure, seamless accessibility and experience-led travel opportunities, creating new growth avenues for regional hospitality and tourism economies.
