Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL) has announced the signing of a Ginger hotel in Sindhudurg, Maharashtra, further strengthening its footprint in emerging leisure destinations. The project, a conversion of a standalone hotel, will be expanded to a 50-key property under the Ginger brand.
The signing aligns with IHCL’s strategy of growing its presence in high-potential tourism markets and expanding the reach of its lean luxe Ginger portfolio across the country.
Commenting on the development, Suma Venkatesh, Executive Vice President – Real Estate & Development, IHCL, said, “Sindhudurg is emerging as a sought-after leisure destination on Maharashtra’s Konkan coast, driven by improving connectivity, growing visitor footfall and increasing demand for short-stay travel. Its accessibility from key feeder markets like Mumbai, Pune and Goa, along with its scenic coastline, positions the destination for sustained tourism growth. This signing reflects our strategy of expanding the brand’s presence in high-potential destinations and we are happy to partner with Ms. Sawant for this project.”
The upcoming 50-key Ginger Sindhudurg will offer an all-day dining restaurant, a bar, a swimming pool, a fitness centre, meeting rooms and a banquet hall. The property is expected to cater to both leisure travellers and the growing demand for corporate meetings, conferences and social events in the region.
Priyanka Sawant, the project partner, said, “We are delighted to partner with IHCL to bring the Ginger brand to Sindhudurg. We look forward to working with IHCL and contributing to the destination’s growing tourism appeal.”
Located on Maharashtra’s scenic Konkan coastline, Sindhudurg has witnessed increasing tourism activity in recent years, supported by enhanced road and air connectivity and rising interest in coastal and experiential travel. The district is home to attractions such as the historic Sindhudurg Fort, Sawantwadi Palace, Moti Talav Lake, and the popular Tarkarli beaches, known for water sports and marine tourism.
Industry observers note that the Konkan region is emerging as an important leisure market, benefiting from strong demand from nearby urban centres including Mumbai, Pune and Goa. Improved infrastructure and growing interest in short-haul holidays are creating opportunities for branded hotel operators to expand into previously underserved destinations.
With the latest signing, IHCL’s portfolio in Maharashtra has grown to 66 hotels, including 34 properties under development, reinforcing the company’s leadership position in one of India’s largest hospitality markets.
The addition of Ginger Sindhudurg is expected to support the destination’s tourism growth while strengthening the brand’s presence in the midscale segment, catering to value-conscious business and leisure travellers seeking quality accommodation in emerging destinations.
