Goa’s Balivada Single-Malt Whisky Wins National Award for Innovation

Imagine a drink that offers an unparalleled experience, blending heritage with innovation. Goa’s signature spirit, Feni, has found a new avatar in Balivada Single-Malt Whisky, which recently clinched the prestigious 2024 National Award for Excellence. Honorable Goa Industries Minister Shri Mauvin Godinho congratulated the Cheers Group for their groundbreaking product, praising their contribution to making Goa proud on the national stage.

Balivada Single-Malt Whisky, priced at INR 1,650 for a 750ml bottle in Goa and up to INT 3,600 in other states, is finished in world-first Heritage Feni casks. This innovative process results in a smooth, complex spirit that redefines the Indian whisky experience.

“We’re thrilled to announce that Balivada Single-Malt Whisky has once again soared to distinction,” said Ashwin Balivada, CEO of Cheers Group, and a Cambridge University alumnus. “This award not only recognizes the craftsmanship and elegance of Balivada but also our commitment to sustainability and luxury.”

Under the leadership of founder Dr. Mohan Krishna Balivada, the Cheers Group has established itself as a luxury beverage pioneer, boasting over 200 national and international awards across its portfolio of premium spirits. With a valuation of INR 750 crore, the group is now attracting international equity funds as it eyes global expansion.

Balivada Single-Malt Whisky is a testament to the brand’s vision of redefining Indian whisky. Crafted from 100% malted barley, the whisky is matured in sherry and bourbon casks before an additional aging process in Feni barrels, a first-of-its-kind innovation. This unique technique infuses the whisky with complex aromas and flavors, elevating it to new heights.

“Balivada Single-Malt Whisky is more than a drink—it’s a work of art and a symbol of sophistication,” said Dr. Mohan Krishna Balivada, the world’s first alco-bev marketing doctorate holder.

The Cheers Group’s dedication to excellence extends beyond beverages. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the company pivoted its production to create and donate hand sanitizers to Goa government departments, showcasing its commitment to corporate social responsibility.

“Resilience, optimism, and community have always been our guiding principles,” added Ashwin Balivada. “We take pride in contributing to our community while redefining India’s luxury beverage industry.”
