In a strategic move, Tata Starbucks, the joint venture between the Tata Group and global coffee giant Starbucks, has unveiled plans to escalate its current tally of 390 stores to an impressive 1,000 by the year 2028. The company aims to introduce a new store every three days, not only penetrating urban landscapes but also making inroads into tier-2 and tier-3 cities.
The announcement comes after the visit of Starbucks’ chief executive Laxman Narasimhan to the country this week. “With a growing middle class, we are proud to help cultivate the evolving coffee culture while honouring its rich heritage,” he said, adding that the company which has been present in India for the last 11 years is well positioned to capture “limitless opportunities”.
Positioning India as one of the world’s fastest-growing markets, Starbucks is capitalizing on the nation’s anticipated rise to become the third-largest global economy by 2030. As part of this expansion strategy, the joint venture is set to double its workforce, reaching 8,600 employees. The comprehensive plan encompasses entry into smaller cities, an augmentation of drive-through services, an expanded presence in airports, and an increase in the number of 24-hour stores.
Tata Starbucks reported an impressive 71% surge in sales, reaching ₹1,087 crore in the fiscal year 2023.
“As we move into the next chapter of growth, we will continue to develop India’s coffee culture to deepen connections with our customers, while innovating to bring our unique Indian offerings to the global stage,” Sunil D’Souza, chief executive and managing director at Tata Consumer Products, said.
In a noteworthy corporate social responsibility initiative, Tata Starbucks aims to empower women in India by providing vocational skills training to underprivileged young women aspiring to build careers in the food and beverage retail industry.
“With partners forming the heartbeat of our organization and shaping our success in India, we will continue to make meaningful investments that bridge a better future for all partners,” said Sushant Dash, Chief Executive, Tata Starbucks.
