IHG Hotels & Resorts plans to open a Holiday Inn Express in Changanassery, Kottayam. This decision highlights its focus on promising secondary markets in India. As the first internationally branded hotel in the city, this project positions IHG as a leader in an area that is slowly becoming a regional center, thanks to religious tourism, natural beauty, and increasing commercial activity. The hotel will be part of the new KGA Mall, a mixed-use development, which will bring foot traffic, retail, and entertainment, making it appealing to both leisure and business travelers.
Holiday Inn Express Kottayam Changanassery is set to open in the first quarter of 2027. It will offer 90 well-designed rooms, a modern banquet hall for over 100 guests, and various food and drink options to satisfy different tastes. Guests will enjoy a swimming pool, a multiplex, and a family entertainment center, all within the same complex. The hotel will also be close to important towns like Kochi, Alleppey, Pathanamthitta, and Thiruvananthapuram.
This move is part of IHG’s larger effort to expand in underserved but emerging markets, where there are few branded accommodations but a growing demand. With this opening, IHG is clearly focused on India’s tier-2 cities to drive the next stage of its hospitality growth, blending global quality with local needs.
