In anticipation of Cyclone Montha bringing heavy to very heavy rainfall to South Odisha, the Ganjam district administration has directed all hotels and resorts in Gopalpur to suspend operations and cancel bookings for three days starting October 27.
The directive, issued by District Collector Keerthi Vasan, instructs hotel owners and managers to immediately cancel all guest reservations and implement precautionary measures to ensure the safety of guests, staff, and property. The administration has also emphasized strict adherence to the Disaster Management Act, 2005, warning that non-compliance will invite penal action.
While the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast that Cyclone Montha will make landfall in Andhra Pradesh, adjoining districts of South Odisha — particularly Ganjam — are expected to experience intense rainfall and strong winds.
The IMD has issued an orange warning for October 27 and a red alert for October 28, urging hospitality businesses and tourists to remain cautious. Hoteliers in the region have begun securing premises and assisting in evacuation protocols in coordination with local authorities.
