Ventive Hospitality Limited, a listed hospitality platform operating multiple Marriott-branded hotels in Pune, has rolled out a INR 20,000 in-hand minimum monthly salary for frontline employees across its city cluster. The policy creates India’s first organised wage floor commitment by a domestic hotel operator, signalling a structural intervention in entry-level pay at a time when talent retention has become a boardroom priority for hospitality groups.
The minimum pay threshold was voluntarily committed by CEO Ranjit Batra in 2024 and has now been operationalised across payroll systems, according to the company. Industry executives note that while Indian hospitality remains one of the country’s largest employment-generating sectors, starting salary structures have trailed sharply behind rising living costs in both metro and tier-II commercial markets, contributing to high attrition, workforce shortages, and competitive hiring pressure.
Ventive stated the move is designed to address financial security, retention, and staffing stability for guest-facing teams that form the backbone of hotel operations. The group has historically maintained workforce safeguards, including full wage continuity during the COVID-19 disruption, when most of the sector enforced cuts or furloughs.
Analysts view the policy as a potential industry precedent for hotel operators scaling through B2B asset clusters while rebuilding human-capital resilience to meet demand cycles driven by corporate travel, events, and experience-led hospitality.
