The Karnataka government has launched a statewide crackdown on underage drinking, directing pubs, bars, breweries, clubs, lounges, and other liquor-serving establishments to strictly verify the age of customers before granting entry or serving alcohol. The move follows instructions from Karnataka Home Minister Priyank Kharge, who emphasized a simple rule: “No ID, No Entry.”
Under the new enforcement drive, customers must present valid identification to prove they meet the legal drinking age requirement. Establishments found admitting or serving alcohol to minors could face strict action under existing laws.
The decision comes after a recent study highlighted growing concerns about alcohol and tobacco use among adolescents, with researchers finding that a significant proportion of young people were at risk of health issues linked to substance use.
Authorities have instructed police and enforcement agencies to conduct checks and ensure compliance across liquor-serving venues. The initiative aims to strengthen youth safety, improve public health outcomes, and prevent minors from accessing alcohol.
