In a landmark development for Assam’s hospitality landscape, Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma laid the foundation stone for the Lemon Tree Premier Five-Star Hotel at Sarusajai, part of a larger INR 800 crore integrated complex that also includes the Medanta Super-Speciality Hospital and the Cocoon Mother and Childcare Hospital.
The project, born out of the Advantage Assam 2.0 Investment and Infrastructure Summit, signals Guwahati’s emergence as a new centre for premium hospitality and medical tourism in the Northeast.
Spread across 1.75 acres, the upcoming Lemon Tree Premier will feature 300 rooms and 50 serviced apartments, positioning itself as the largest upscale property in the region. Designed to cater to both corporate and leisure travellers, the property is expected to elevate Guwahati’s appeal for domestic and international tourists, particularly as the state strengthens connectivity to Southeast Asia.
“This hotel will set a new benchmark in hospitality in the Northeast,” said Chief Minister Sarma, noting that the integrated complex would create thousands of jobs and catalyse investment in tourism, healthcare, and allied services.
Industry experts view the project as a strategic step toward establishing Assam as a gateway for experiential tourism and wellness travel. With leading players like Lemon Tree Hotels joining hands with healthcare giants such as Medantaand Cocoon, the initiative is set to redefine Guwahati’s positioning from a transit destination to a premium medical and hospitality hub for the entire Northeast corridor.
