FSSAI Licence Reform Boosts Ease of Doing Business
The National Restaurant Association of India (NRAI) has welcomed the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) decision to treat a valid Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) registration as a deemed Health Trade Permit for restaurants operating within NDMC limits.
Under this reform, FSSAI-licensed restaurants and cafés will no longer need to obtain a separate municipal health trade licence. The move, supported by the Delhi Government, aims to reduce regulatory overlap and strengthen Ease of Doing Business (EoDB) in the capital.
Streamlining Restaurant Licensing in Delhi
The decision also extends relief to other commercial establishments, allowing valid GST registrations to be treated as deemed general trade licences within NDMC areas.
According to NRAI President Sagar Daryani, this reform marks a historic moment for Delhi’s restaurant ecosystem and sets a precedent for other municipalities across India to modernize their licensing frameworks.
Industry Leaders Applaud Regulatory Simplification
NRAI acknowledged the efforts of Delhi’s leadership, including Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena and Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, for enabling this industry-friendly reform.
Sandeep Anand Goyle, Head of the NRAI Delhi Chapter, emphasized that removing the mandatory municipal health trade licence eliminates annual renewals and operational bottlenecks, allowing restaurateurs to focus on innovation, growth, and employment generation.
The association reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with authorities to ensure a transparent and growth-oriented regulatory environment.
