The Tourism and Hospitality Skill Council (THSC), in partnership with the National Skill Development Corporation, has entered the final phase of its nationwide selection process to identify India’s top talent for the WorldSkills Competition 2026, scheduled to take place from September 22 to 27, 2026, in Shanghai.
Global Platform for Skill Excellence
WorldSkills is among the largest international skill competitions, bringing together over 1,400 participants from more than 70 countries across diverse vocational categories. In the hospitality segment, India will compete in five key disciplines—Bakery, Cookery, Patisserie & Confectionery, Hotel Reception, and Restaurant Service—areas where Indian participants have consistently demonstrated strong performance.
Nationwide Selection Process
The selection process has seen participation from candidates across India, progressing through multiple state and regional-level competitions. Following these rounds, 50 candidates have been shortlisted as national finalists.
These finalists will now compete at the IndiaSkills National Competition, to be held at the C V Raman Global Universityin Bhubaneswar, which will serve as the final selection platform for the global event.
Training and Preparation
Post selection, the chosen candidates will undergo structured training and mentorship under industry experts. The focus will be on refining technical skills, ensuring consistency, and preparing participants for the demands of international competition formats.
Building a Skilled Talent Pipeline
According to THSC, the initiative plays a critical role in identifying and nurturing young talent while aligning them with global standards. It also establishes a structured pathway for skill development, equipping participants with the exposure and confidence required to represent India on international platforms.
Road to Shanghai 2026
As the IndiaSkills 2025–26 cycle nears its conclusion, attention now shifts to the national competition, where India’s top hospitality talent will compete for a chance to represent the country at WorldSkills Shanghai 2026.
