The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has suspended the food business licence of Radhakrishna Hotel in Borivali West after a diner allegedly found a dead rat inside a Mysore masala dosa served at the restaurant.
According to the complaint, the incident occurred on September 29 when Amit Trivedi visited the restaurant with his two brothers and son. One of his brothers had reportedly eaten several bites of the dosa before noticing what appeared to be a small dead rat inside it.
The family subsequently approached Borivali police, following which the complaint was brought to the Maharashtra FDA for action. The regulator suspended the restaurant’s food business licence amid an ongoing food-safety enforcement drive across the state.
The FDA is expected to examine the restaurant’s kitchen, food storage and preparation areas and pest-control arrangements as part of its assessment. The precise circumstances surrounding the alleged incident have not yet been established.
The action comes amid an intensified FDA crackdown on food-safety violations in Maharashtra. Between September 1 and 23, the department inspected 3,068 food establishments, issued 1,506 improvement notices and suspended 248 licences.
