The 7th edition of the SICA Culinary Olympiad & Food Competition 2025 was inaugurated at the Chennai Trade Centre by Shri R. Rajendran, Hon’ble Minister for Tourism, Tamil Nadu, alongside Padma Shri Chef Damu, President of SICA, and Chef Seetharam Prasad, General Secretary of SICA.
Recognised as India’s first WACS-endorsed culinary competition, the three-day event has drawn more than 3,000 chefs from across India along with international teams from the Maldives, Mauritius, Sri Lanka, and Australia. The Olympiad is being held alongside the regional edition of AAHAR International Food Fair 2025, supported by the India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO) and Tamil Nadu Trade Promotion Organisation (TNTPO).
Ahead of the Olympiad, SICA conducted technical workshops on pastry art and hot plate presentation. Master Culinary Trainer Chef Dimuthu Kumarasinghe from the Chefs Guild of Lanka, along with a team of Sri Lankan chefs, demonstrated advanced food plating techniques to participants.
Day one highlights included a three-tier wedding cake display, butter and margarine sculpture, plated appetizers, live paratha-making, authentic regional Indian cuisine (powered by Maggi Coconut Milk Powder), and the Culinary Team Challenge Buffet Competition. The event also features exclusive cocktail and mocktail contests, as well as competitions in housekeeping, with daily winners awarded gold medals.
With an international jury accredited by WACS, the SICA Culinary Olympiad 2025 provides a platform for professional chefs, culinary students, and hospitality talent to showcase their skills, celebrate culinary art, and promote innovation in gastronomy.
