Maharashtra’s Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has suspended the licences of 16 food establishments across the Pune division following a four-day enforcement drive that uncovered hygiene and food safety violations.
The action was taken during inspections conducted between August 11 and 14 under the Safe Food, Safe Drug, Safe Maharashtra campaign. According to FDA officials, several establishments were found to be non-compliant with food safety requirements.
Among those facing action are Hotel Sayaji in Lonavala and Burger King on East Street in Pune, along with outlets operated by Zepto and Blink Commerce (Blinkit) in Lohegaon, Sinhagad Road and Bhavani Peth. Domino’s Pizza and Pizza Hut outlets in Satara have also been issued suspension orders.
Other establishments named in the FDA action include Hotel Chul Mutton on Nagar Road, Simply South in Bhosari, Hotel Pawan in Kolhapur, Rajesh Chinese in Sangli and a canteen operated by JBM Hospitality at HDFC Bank in Wanwadi.
The enforcement action also extends to the dairy sector, with Om Sai Ram Milk and Milk Products in Khed and Dhamnath Doodh Shitikaran Kendra in Loni, Ambegaon among those facing action.
D V Bhogawade, Joint Commissioner, FDA Pune division, said the inspections were undertaken following concerns over hygiene and food safety compliance, with establishments found violating provisions of food safety regulations facing regulatory action.
The FDA is also set to begin a separate enforcement drive targeting high-fat, high-sugar and high-salt (HFSS) foods sold around schools. Food businesses operating within 50 metres of school premises have been advised against selling such products, with violations liable to attract legal action.
The crackdown adds to growing regulatory scrutiny of food safety and hygiene practices across restaurants, hotels, food-service establishments and quick-commerce operations.
