The Institute of Hotel Management (IHM), Ranchi, organised Anusthapan, its orientation programme for the newly admitted B.Sc. Hospitality & Hotel Administration (H&HA) students for the academic session 2026-27. The programme aimed to familiarise students with the institute’s academic framework, training methodology, industry expectations, and career opportunities in the hospitality sector.
IHM Ranchi, affiliated with the National Council for Hotel Management and Catering Technology (NCHMCT), Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, and functioning under the Department of Tourism, Government of Jharkhand, welcomed the new batch in the presence of senior government officials and industry leaders.
Ms. Anjali Yadav, Additional Secretary, Department of Higher & Technical Education, Government of Jharkhand, and Controller of Examinations, JCECEB, attended the programme as the Chief Guest, while Yogesh Kumar, General Manager, Ramada by Wyndham, Ranchi, was the Guest of Honour.
The event commenced with a tree plantation drive, followed by the ceremonial lamp lighting. Students showcased Jharkhand’s cultural heritage through a Ganesh Vandana and a traditional Jhumar folk dance performance.
A highlight of the programme was the felicitation of Sarvesh Sinha, the highest-ranking student among the newly admitted batch, for his outstanding performance in the NCHM JEE entrance examination.
Addressing the students, Anjali Yadav said that admission to IHM Ranchi marked the beginning of an important professional journey. She noted that the institute has consistently strengthened hospitality education through industry-oriented learning and quality training.
“Students must continuously upgrade their knowledge and skills, particularly by leveraging emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence. Industrial internships provide valuable practical exposure and should be utilised effectively,”she said.
She further emphasised the importance of communication skills, professional competence, additional language proficiency, certification programmes and continuous learning in improving employability. Referring to Jharkhand’s tribal heritage, traditional cuisine, GI-tagged products and cultural diversity, she encouraged students from across the country to understand and promote the state’s unique identity.
Speaking on the occasion, Yogesh Kumar, General Manager, Ramada by Wyndham, Ranchi, highlighted the vast opportunities available in the hospitality industry for disciplined and dedicated professionals.
“Punctuality, commitment, teamwork and perseverance are critical to building a successful hospitality career. Challenges should be viewed as opportunities for learning and growth,” he said while sharing insights from his professional journey.
He also invited students to visit Ramada by Wyndham, Ranchi, to gain firsthand exposure to hotel operations and industry practices.
Welcoming the students with the traditional greeting “Johar”, Dr. Bhupesh Kumar, Principal, IHM Ranchi, described the orientation programme as the first step towards their academic and professional development.
“IHM Ranchi has established itself among the leading government hotel management institutes in the country through quality education, modern training infrastructure, strong industry linkages and consistent placement performance. Our objective is to develop skilled hospitality professionals capable of meeting national and international industry requirements,” he said.
Dr. Kumar also acknowledged the support of the Department of Tourism, Government of Jharkhand, in strengthening the institute’s growth and development.
During the orientation programme, students were introduced to the institute’s academic structure, laboratories, departments, library, hostel facilities, industrial training modules, internship programmes, examination system and placement process. Detailed briefings were also conducted on the Anti-Ragging Committee, Discipline Committee, Internal Complaints Committee, Student Welfare Cell and other student support mechanisms.
The newly admitted students were also taken on a campus tour to familiarise them with classrooms, laboratories, recreational facilities and other infrastructure available at the institute.
The programme concluded with an interactive session where students expressed enthusiasm about beginning their hospitality education journey at IHM Ranchi. Faculty members, staff, senior students and newly admitted students participated in the event.
