According to HT, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) has initiated a suo moto case concerning the proposed construction of luxury hotels in and around Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve (KNPTR).
This action follows the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Assam Tourism Development Corporation and Tata Group for a INR 120 crore five-star hotel project. Concerns have been raised by residents, farmers, and rights groups about potential displacement and environmental harm. The case is set for a hearing on Wednesday.
