Harajuku Tokyo Café, India’s fastest-growing Japanese casual dining and QSR chain, has raised USD2 million (INR19 crore) in seed funding to fuel its pan-India expansion. The round was co-led by Indian Angel Network (IAN) and Samved VC, with additional participation from LetsVenture and Capitar Ventures.
Founded in 2021 by Gaurav Kanwar, Harajuku Tokyo Café has quickly redefined Japanese dining in India with its authentic yet accessible offerings, including conveyor-belt sushi, jiggly pancakes, and ramen. The brand currently operates seven outlets across Delhi NCR and Mumbai, generating over INR30 crore in annual recurring revenue (ARR). With this fresh capital, the company aims to scale to 90 outlets across 20 cities and cross INR200 crore in revenue by 2027.
“This funding milestone strengthens our vision of democratizing Japanese cuisine in India,” said Gaurav Kanwar, Founder & CEO. “With our Mumbai launch surpassing expectations, we are poised to become India’s leading Japanese dining destination.”
The funding comes at a time when India’s food service industry is valued at USD 51 billion and expected to more than double by 2033, with Japanese cuisine emerging as one of the fastest-growing international categories.
Harajuku will also expand beyond dining with its new D2C vertical, KoiKoi Essentials, offering ramen kits, sauces, and frozen meals. The brand is further exploring international franchise opportunities, starting with the UAE.
