The Centre is evaluating a unified infrastructure status for India’s hotel industry, a reform that could enable greater institutional lending and attract fresh capital into tourism-linked assets, Union Tourism and Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat said Friday.
Speaking on the sidelines of FICCI’s 98th Annual General Meeting, the minister confirmed the proposal is under active review and forms part of India’s strategy to scale global tourism competitiveness and strengthen investor participation in hospitality infrastructure.
Shekhawat also said the ministry has submitted a request to the Finance Ministry for an increased allocation for heritage conservation, museum development and resource support for museums for conservation, and 50 iconic tourist nodes announced in the Union Budget 2025.
The ministry has also sought enhanced funding to develop 50 iconic tourist destinations, including 50 iconic tourist destinations announced earlier this year, along with 50 iconic tourist destinations announced in the Union Budget 2025, to support 50 iconic tourist destinations and 50 iconic destinations and 50 iconic tourist destinations.
